OUTDOOR SIRENS – WEATHER / CHEMICAL NOTIFICATION
Thomas Township has strategically placed 10 sirens throughout our community. These sirens are to warn citizens when they are OUTSIDE of a tornado WARNING or of a chemical emergency meaning you need to shelter-in-place. The siren sounds are the same.
For a Tornado WARNING you need to seek shelter. For more information click Tornado Safety Information.
For a CHEMICAL EMERGENCY you need to shelter-in-place. Click shelter-in-place for more information.
This mirrors the same system Midland County has been using for several years. The steady siren blast on a rotating pole allows residents to hear this well in all directions. When you hear this siren, seek shelter immediately and monitor the weather conditions. These sirens are tested the first Wednesday of every month. During the months of October -April the tests are at noon and from May- September, the tests are at 7:00pm.

• James Township – siren sounds for their fire calls and tornado warnings.
• Tittabawassee Township – the correctional facility’s siren sounds for their monthly test or a live event.
• Hemlock Semiconductor – has some internal sirens to alert their employees of actions they need to take. See their web site at www.hscpoly.com/community-connectionMI to learn more about their sirens and other important facts.
• Richland Township and Swan Creek (Tri-Township) – has the same siren system we have and is tested the same time as ours.
